Samuel Minguillon graduated in Performing Arts at his native island, Tenerife, and continued his studies in Barcelona and Madrid (ES). He has worked as an actor, dancer, teacher and assistant choreographer, while he also creates his own work. He has danced for companies such as Producció Nacional de Dansa (Barcelona), The Dutch National Opera & Ballet (Amsterdam), Toula Limnaios (Berlin), TDLab (Tenerife), Cia Sonia Rodriguez (Barcelona), Plan B Company (Barcelona), and has assisted Royston Maldoom and Tamara Mac Lord in the production Grandes Pasos.
He has performed in France, Turkey, Germany, Brazil, Russia, Belgium and The Netherlands, and worked with choreographers such as Roser Lopez, Thomas Noone, Alfredo Bravo, Aranxta Sagardoy, Helena Berthelius, Randi de Vlieghe, and more.
As a teacher he is involved with DancePAT (Munich, DE), AHK (Amsterdam, NL), Henny Jurriens Foundation (Amsterdam, NL), Performing Arts University (Chengdu, CHN), Marameo (Berlin, DE), Tanzfabrik (Berlin, DE), Profesional-training Basel (Basel, CH), Area espai de dansa y creació (Barcelona, ES), PTF (Profitraining Freiburg, DE), Iwanson Contemporary Dance School (Munich, DE), Metamorphosis Studio (Beijing,CHN), and companies like Kassel Staatstheater, Johannes Wieland, Konzert Theatre Bern, Bielefeld Tanz company.
He gives intensive workshops of his movement technique (IN/OUT) worldwide, in vocational and professional dance training schools and companies in Amsterdam, Beijing, Barcelona, Munich, Berlin, Madrid, Zurich, and more, while he also leads research lab workshops for Modern Bruises dance collective (Amsterdam).

Countertechnique is a movement system developed to help the dancer think about the dancing body, focusing on the process of incorporating information into action. Within a clear structure of exercises the Countertechnique class enables dancers to move big and fluidly, while becoming strong and flexible. Dancers are encouraged to be proactive in discovering connections and solutions, to be less concerned with judging themselves and to work in a healthy way with regard to the whole self.
The class starts with a recurring set of tasks and exercises, allowing dancers to investigate the Countertechnique tools in detail. The second half of the class consists of changing components, working towards a movement combination, that travels through all levels of space playing with flow and range in motion. The build up is geared towards working on coordination, strengthening and flexibility as well as finding a heightened sense of awareness and presence by exploring new tools every class.
Partnering with Countertechnique
In partnering work there are much more essential aspects than just the partner. There is the communication that happens between two people, the space around them defining their movements, the new forces and possibilities created by the exchange of two bodies and each body’s personal process. In this workshop you will investigate all those issues at stake while working with a partner and explore them to create something together that can only exist because you are working together.
The specific approach of partnering taught in this workshop is derived from the Countertechnique. The principles and the essential knowledge of Countertechnique form the tools and vocabulary to communicate with. In simple exercises you will learn how to physically apply this new language in relation to another body. Moving with a partner can become easier, lifts lighter and the communication clearer. We will work with guided and free improvisations and how to apply the new skills in an open exchange. You will practice how to listen, initiate, support, follow, make suggestions and observe to create something together. And finally you will apply the learned principles to repertory duet material and together make it your own.

Countertechnique
Joy's class will start with a two hour Countertechnique class. The Countertechnique class prepares the body for rehearsal and performance. Within a clear class structure, it provides tools for body and mind to deal with the demanding dance practice of the 21st century. It is a movement system to help the dancer think about the dancing body by focusing on the process of incorporating information into action. The goal is to enable dancers to move bigger, with fluidity and spatial attention, while becoming stronger and more flexible. Students will be introduced to the Toolbox: a framework from which ideas and principals of Countertechnique are accessed during an exercise. The priority is to experience clarity and enjoyment of movement. Dancers are encouraged to be pro-active in discovering connections and solutions, to be less concerned with judging themselves, and to work in a healthy way physically, mentally and emotionally.

Improvisational practice for performance presence
After the two-hour Countertechnique class students will move into an impovisational practice. The commonality of the sensing body lays the foundation for this improvisational exploration of the practical tools in the Countertechnique. Originally designed for the Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation, Joy shares, in this workshop, her knowledge of the Countertechnique to create an environment for movement discovery based in the reality of space, gravity, anatomy, and connection. By exploring the tools in more detail with a different focus each day, this practice cultivates availability in the body, develops agility in making choices on stage, and refines skills for dynamic performance presence.
On the final day, in an informal showing to the general public, students will perform and share the work that they have been intensely working on for the past week.
